Despite being contacted several times by the debate organizers, Jerry Ouellette has not responded to an invitation to participate in the People's Debate. The debate, being held at the Regent Theatre on May 29th at 6:30PM, will focus on social issues such as retirement security, education, and poverty. It is Jerry's responsibility to inform his constituents about his plan to address these critical issues as he seeks re-election and, as voters, it is our right to know. Please sign the petition to ask Jerry to attend the People's Debate.

Despite being notified several times well in advance via phone, email, and dropping into the campaign office, Jerry Ouellette's campaign has just notified us that he is very busy on Thursday and unless we hear from him tonight, we can assume he is not participating in the debate.

Some have asked why the Green Party candidate hadn't been invited to the debate -- the Green Party candidate has been invited however they were not listed as a registered candidate on Election Ontario's website until very recently. All registered candidates have been officially invited to participate in this debate.

We Are Oshawa is on the move for the People's Debate: 700 pieces of literature delivered in mailboxes, posters have been put up at both the downtown, the north campus, and in the windows of downtown businesses, and radio ads have hit the airwaves over two days. Thanks to all the volunteers who generously donated their time!

Local media coverage of the People's Debate: "They’re calling it “The People’s Debate,” but it’s not the only one being scheduled prior to the June 12 provincial election. Local citizen action group We Are Oshawa says it is partnering with the Durham College and UOIT Student Association and Drop Tuition UOIT (a grassroots student group) to host an all-candidates debate for Oshawa riding candidates. The debate will be held at the Regent Theatre on Thursday, May 29 at 6:30 p.m. Organizers say it will be focused on social issues like retirement security, post-secondary education and poverty. In a release sent out, We Are Oshawa claims the Ontario Works and Ontario Disability Support Program are “barely enough” for people to get by on. “Having moved to Ontario from Flint Michigan six years ago, I do not want to see Ontario take the same path as my former hometown,” says Tiffany Balducci, spokesperson for We Are Oshawa. “The purpose of this debate is to ensure issues like poverty and retirement security are addressed by all parties in the upcoming provincial election.”
